Why Do Email Apps Struggle…?!

They come, they conquer — they leave. This could be written on a Roman tablet somewhere.

Prepare for your email applications to just drop dead. The cost of running them and managing them sometimes is so high that they have to call it a day

I think it’s because:

  1. It’s a difficult software category to do well. The cost of getting it right means charging high.
  2. There are some really good free ones backed by companies that don’t need to make money directly from the email client. They are vying for more broad product loyalty.
  3. People don’t need a new email client’s help to become more productive at email, which always seems to be the main marketing point. Email productivity comes from you.
