Have you ever accidently archived one or many emails in Gmail accidentally, and you didn’t see exactly what it was, but need to get it back in the inbox?

This happens to me every once in a while. Usually I swipe an email away completely on accident (maybe I was trying to swipe a different one). But I didn’t even see which email exactly I swiped away my mistake. How do you get it back?

The trick, and thanks for Matthew R. Lee for documenting this, is that from within the Gmail interface, search for in:archve. The search results for that will be all archived emails, ordered by when they were archived which is the clutch thing. The email(s) you just accidently archived should be right up at the top for you to move back to the inbox.

I came here today to say THANK YOU for posting this. As an “inbox as a todo list” guy, I was not too happy when I accidentally archived an email on my phone while eating at Chipotle with the other hand. A series of unfortunate fork and phone dropping caused me to miss the “undo” window. In the back corner of my mind, I remembered this. I came back for details and it saved my bacon! Also FYI, a small typo above… you want to search for “in:archive”.
