I don’t 100% know what Michael Lopp means here but my guess is that you don’t need any email signature at all. Not a big crazy one that is longer than the email itself like your last realtor had. Not one with a row of social icons like your neighborhood influencer has. Not a link. Not even a - Chris at the end, I suppose.
And if that’s the case, I get it. Email clients make it pretty clear who is emailing you. If you can imagine it’s not obvious to the recipient, that make clear who you are in that first email, then it will be clear henceforth.
Here’s mine:

Maybe I should question that a bit? Maybe I should just do nothing like Michael suggests? Maybe I should add my personal site?
I mean just this week I was emailing with someone I was trying to get on ShopTalk, they saw my CodePen link in my footer, and shared with me some really interesting stuff they did on CodePen that was highly relevant to our conversation. Pretty pivotal, actually. It’s even a reminder to myself: I work on these projects. They are very important to me. Represent them well.
And sometimes when I’m emailing with friends, I literally go down there and delete the signature as it just feels weird to have it.
For now, I’m inclined to keep my system. There is likely to come a day where I no longer have anything I really wanna tell the world about, and that day I’ll delete the signature.
